Drink Like a Champion Today

The Sabres win tonight to finish out the 6 game road trip 4-2, not shabby. Miller was very good and they had a strong third period after starting off slowly in the first. I will be in attendance Thursday night as the hated Philadelphia Flyers will be in town. I am sure there will be a lot of obnoxious Flyer fans there.

Anyway, the stretch of games the Sabes have coming up will go a long way in determining if they can climb atop the Eastern Conference or will be happy to just be in the playoffs by opening on the road.

Check out the schedule:
Feb 2: Philly
Feb 4: Ottawa
Feb 7: at Montreal
Feb 9: Montreal
Feb 11: Florida
Feb 12: at Carolina - Then Olympic break. Word.

Oh yeah, how much of a big douche does Don Waddell (Thrashers GM and US Men's Olympic Hockey GM) look for not taking Ryan Miller as the US goalie.

February 1st marks the one year birthday of this blog. For some reason I felt I needed to post a picture I took of The Hip, relate a story about how my dog shit on my rug (which happened roughly about 3 times this year - not bad), and then thought it was interesting that I added two curse words to the spell checker. Also that first day Geoff shared a humorous scene from Napoleon Dynamite, and told a true story about our friend Dave's insane father, Art. Anyway, its strange to think that I am actually still posting a year later. I really love myself and I think that what I have to say is IMPORTANT.

Go check out some SUPERBOWL XL COVERAGE. Also, check out Big Ben partying with some ladies.

Baseballs

So baseball fans, the season is a few short months away and there was a big trade a few days ago between the Mets and Orioles: Kris (and Anna) Benson for Jorge Julio. Track all the moves with ESPN's transaction tracker.

Does anyone else remember this guy? Me neither. But as the article said, Travis Henry rushed for 1438 three years ago why he was here, he also had 11 fumbles that year. Cool.

Superconnected

First things first. My great great girlfriend of almost four years said yes to my marriage proposal and is now my great great fiancee. She is the best girl ever, and we could not be happier. Thanks to the 5 of you who come to FTIT and already know this news and have wished us well.

So, I popped the question while we were in Toronto this weekend. My cover for getting her up there was to see Broken Social Scene who we both are into pretty heavily right now (me way more than her, but whatever). I will not bore you all with a long review on how awesome and great it was, because that is what I do every time I see a live show. I will mention that it is pretty surreal seeing as many as 12 musicians on the stage at once (most of them playing a guitar) and that Feist is AWESOME. She is on Jimmy Kimmel tonight and you should tivo it. I couldn't take my eyes off her when she was on the stage and my new fiancee was getting a little perturbed at the fact that I talked about her most of the next day as we drove home. Anyway, check out Let It Die, her most recent album. Or, just check out an MP3:

Feist - Gatekeeper - Your ladies are sure to dig it.

Added bonus: BSS - Almost Crimes Video

The Bills go with Jauron. Ho hum.

Boring

Anyone else think the Championship games are boring this year? I just wish pitchers and catchers would show up already. Anyway, 45-31-1, takes us to here:

carolina +4 over SEATTLE
pittsburgh +3 1/2 over DEN
pitts/DEN over 41.

Whatever.

Ms. Hancock

What exactly are the Bills doing giving Dom Friggin Capers an interview? I guess the 18-46 record with Houston warrants him getting a chance. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it is Sherman.

Long over due: A New PT Anderson film.

I don't watch Dancing With The Stars, but I do admit I watched wrestling like 8 years ago...when it was cool and awesome. 4-Life. Anyway, I was always a Stacy Keibler fan. HOOFAH!

No Coach

I am only doing this because Lando hates when I talk about rock n' roll, but I have to say that the new We Are Scientists album that just came out Tuesday is good to very good. I've listened to it about 4 or 5 times all the way through and I've already found myself humming several of the songs to myself while doing things like making coffee, showering, and walking down the street. In addition my brother and I went down to The Buffalo Icon and saw them play live last night. Great show, they rocked the party that rocked the party. Also of note the members of the band sat directly in front of me on the plane from NYC to Buffalo yesterday afternoon. I briefly talked to the lead singer/guitarist about the unseasonably warm Buffalo weather. Also on the flight was the Iona Men's Basketball team and Larry Quinn of the Sabres.

Now for the 3 of you actually read this blog and the 0 of you who care about this kind of thing and only really care about seeing sexy photos of sexy actresses, We Are Scientists are thought of as a "buzz" indie band by certain bloggers who have opinions on such things. I guess because of all the attention they have recently gotten at different MP3 blogs, they are a buzz band, but whatever who gives an effing ef. I would recommend them, they sound good and have several fun catchy tunes.

MP3 for download - inaction

****Update****
I didn't want to forget about the opening act last night, Oxford Collapse. They were very good as well. Check out some more info and MP3's at Spin.

On to our NFL franchise currently being run by two senior citizens. I really hope that Marv hires someone who has been a head coach and has had some success, ie - won a playoff game or two. Jim Haslett is the top name out there right now and I guess it makes sense. He wants the job, had some brief success in New Orleans, and is not 80. His detractors will point out that New Orleans has pretty much sucked the last two or three years, and are traditionally underachievers. But, I ask you, what is the difference between Haslett and the other candidates being mentioned? Not much in my opinion. I guess you can point to Jim Fassel and the fact that he went to a Superbowl, but he just does not do anything for me. If he was so great why didn't we hire him two years ago?

7 NFL Games to go

It was damn near 60 degrees in Buffalo, NY today. That made me think about my fantasy baseball team, and what "fantasy" team doesn't include the hard-working, corn-fed single-season HR King!?! Good luck getting into the HOF next year, you do NOT have my vote. Anyway...

Unfortunately, there are only 7 NFL games left - and 4 will be this weekend which is often thought of as the best NFL weekend of the year. There is much to discuss today, but we will take our 43-29-1 season record (58.9% winning percentage) and strive for the 60% mark - not bad:

new england +3 over DENVER
INDY -91/2 over pitts
SEA -9 over washington
carolina +3 over CHI

ESPN radio is talking about the Bills situation right now. The host just said Mularkey has "thin skin." I could not agree more. He made $1,000,000.00 per year (give or take) each of the past two seasons. Uh wow! I bet you wish you could quit your job without batting an eyelash because there is too much STRESS or PRESSURE or whatever else you don't link about your job. Geez. I was a Mularkey fan, now I am not. Lets prop that old coot Marv Levy up on the sideline and let him run the show for 1-2 years until the long term guy gets here. By the way, the Bills' owner, Ralph Wilson said he has no idea how much he pays his coaches, etc. Great. Good thing he is calling the shots again.

Play-offs are here, have a can of beeere

(41-27-1): Wild card weekend:

wash +2 1/2 over TB
NE -7 1/2 over jax
NYG -2 1/2 over carolina
CINCY +3 over pitt

I likes the past 3 weeks way better that this weekend. Oh well. Hey, how about that Mel Kiper, very sexy!!

hamburgers? potato salad?

Jessica Alba is ALWAYS in a bikini!!!!!
more

I must admit to getting very hooked on the whole iTunes Videos feature. I have found myself both buying and downloading from various sites random music videos, SNL skits, and the like. Vanmega is one such various site that has several such videos available for download. The Broken Social Scene "Almost Crimes" is very awesome, and I know I am very queer for admitting that I have watched it 7 or 9 times. I could most certainly be doing other more producive things instead of starring at my computer screen watching a music video I suppose.

I made it to my 4th Sabres game of the year last night (tomorrow night will be my 5th). The Sabes once again followed a loss with a WIN over the Lightning of Tampa Bay. Thank God the Sabres continue to play well and be entertaining. With the less than stellar state of the Bills right now, Sabres' games are a nice way to have some positive sports mojo going. They looked awesome last night and I think they have proven that they will be hanging around Ottawa (who lost last night) right up until the end of the year. Also I think Tim Connolly should grow his hair back out.

And now a short video from umc. hamburgers? potato salad?

Stern

Howard Stern is on Larry King tonight, 9pm, CNN. I do not know if his two buddies here will be on with him. Probably not.

OK, I think we should all have a new favorite winter-sports athlete, does Oksana Bauil ski???

Old

From Deadspin
"Bills hire Marv Levy as VP of football operations, bring in Wilford Brimley as Dir. of Marketing."
Get ready for a lot of elderly jokes about the The Bills this off season. Great.

One, Two Step

This is the best of best as far as pictures from New Years go. Moonman was really enjoying Ciara's "One, Two Step" at this point I believe. Good times.

Change is in the wind

6:42pm - the word is that the Bills have fired Tom Donahue and that Ralph Wilson is meeting with Mike Mularkey and Tom Modrak in Detroit, MI right now - John Clayton is reporting the meeting is "not going well." Does this mean we will have a new head coach too? Stay tuned.

By the way, if Thomas Hearns was my dad, I probably would not upset him.

Thanks.

1-1-06

Well, I have my first bad hangover of 2006, great. That said, please do not trust these picks as they are made with a debilitating headache. Moreover, please don't smoke cigarettes, you might get Lupus. Whatever that is.

(38-27-1):

carolina -4 over ATL
JAX - 3 1/2 over tennessee
INDY -61/2 over arizona
washington -7 over PHILLY.

I hate these picks. Now I have to go find my car. Happy New Year. Keep it sexy Dick Clark.
